By offering new jobs to local people we can help communities to grow and prosper. We work with local agencies to create jobs where they are needed most, and to remove barriers to work so that people who don’t already have the skills to work in retail, have the opportunity to try.

Bridging the skills gap
Dedicated pre-recruitment training helps people who are long-term unemployed or who have language difficulties to apply for jobs at Tesco.

Key facts
Training is linked to the guarantee of a job. Programmes include basic skills and preparation for work in-store. As long as recruits complete the course, a job with Tesco is guaranteed.

Who do we work with?
We make it as easy as possible for local people to train and work with us. To help us we work closely with local training providers, schools, colleges and employment services.

In the past year we have worked with Jobcentreplus in Haydock, Oldham and other areas in the northwest to help those on incapacity benefits to get back into work with week-long tasters followed by guaranteed interviews.
