Better food labels
Our new labelling shows the amount of salt, fat, saturates, sugar and calories in a serving of each product. It also shows how much of the guidelines daily amount this makes up so you can get an idea of how this fits into your diet as a whole.

By introducing our new labels we have helped customers switch to products with lower salt and fat content.

Cutting down on salt
In the last year we’ve removed 600 tonnes of salt from over 500 of our most popular own-brand products such as bread, soup and convenience foods – including our Value range.

Salt levels in our Healthy Living and Kids ranges are strictly limited.

Using quality ingredients
We guarantee we won’t use any ingredient in our ready meals that could not be found in a household kitchen cupboard. We have worked with Michelin-starred chefs to ensure the best quality ingredients work to bring out the flavour of our dishes – without using artificial additives.

Lowering the cost
Our Value range now includes 95 fruit and vegetable lines so it costs less than ever to eat 5-a-day.

Sport for Schools
Our Sports for Schools Programme has an ambitious mission – to get a generation of children on the move! In 2006 we gave out over £8.7m of sports equipment to schools bringing the cumulative total since the scheme was launched to over £20m.
tesco sport
  • In the North West we gave away £1.4 million worth of sports equipment and sports coaching to schools and clubs across the region
  • For pupils at Cransley School in Northwich, Cheshire – that coaching session was extra special as it was with England rugby star Jason Robinson
The scheme is making a real difference.
  • One third of Britain's schools and clubs say they will introduce new activities as a result of the scheme
  • One fifth of schools say it will increase physical activity among their pupils
Visit www.tesco.com/sport to find our more.

We also introduced the Tesco U13 Cup football competition which is the first ever UK wide soccer competition.
2,200 teams took part with the final being held in the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.

Tesco Great School Run
In 2006 over 242,000 children from across the UK took part in the world’s largest junior sporting event – the Tesco Great School Run earning a place in the Guiness book of Records. Schools can sign up for free and receive a five week education and nutrition programme which includes lesson plans and an interactive CD. Visit www.greatschoolrun.org to find out more.
