community

community Tesco knows how important it is to be a good neighbour and we want to play a positive role in your community.

One of our most important values is to treat people how we would like to be treated.

We try to achieve this by being a good employer and by providing the goods and services you want – but we try to show we care in other ways too.

Showing we care
We focus our charity and fundraising activity on the areas that staff and customers tell us are important to them. And we are always keen to ensure that local people benefit.

Race for Life
Tesco is proud to support Cancer Research UK's Race for Life and 2007 is our sixth year as sponsor.

Race for Life is a great way for us to help staff and customers in our local communities lead active and healthy lifestyles.

Women and girls of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to walk, jog or run the 5k distance whilst also raising money to help beat cancer.

Sponsorship money raised helps to fund Cancer Research UK's ground-breaking research to find out how to prevent, diagnose and treat different kinds of cancer.

  • In 2005 1457 Tesco staff from stores in the North West took part, helping to raise over £35.5 million
  • Our Extra stores in Bidston Moss, Birkenhead and Barrow-in-Furness were among the nation’s top ten fund-raising stores
  • In 2007 there have been 280 Race for Life events involving 750,000 women and including 22,896 Tesco staff. Including Gift aid we raised £53m for Cancer Research UK. Next year we are aiming for 800,000 participants!
